GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of medications that mimic a hormone your body already produces. They act on receptors involved in appetite regulation, gastric emptying, and blood sugar control. Patients commonly report reduced appetite and earlier satiety during meals. This category of medication has been used to support weight management and glycemic control in adults who meet clinical criteria. Like any medication, GLP-1 therapies carry potential side effects and are not appropriate for everyone. A physician evaluation determines whether this class is a reasonable option for you.
Available treatments
We evaluate and, where appropriate, prescribe both Semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound). The specific medication, titration schedule, and duration of therapy are decided between you and your prescribing physician based on your history, goals, and response to treatment. We do not publish fixed dosing protocols because every patient is different. Your provider will walk you through the plan they recommend and why.
What to expect
Most patients start with an intake review, a physician consultation, and recent lab work. If therapy is appropriate, prescriptions are sent to a licensed pharmacy for fulfillment. Follow-up visits are typically scheduled every 4 to 8 weeks during active titration. These visits are used to assess tolerability, review side effects, and adjust the plan. Lifestyle changes — nutrition, sleep, movement — remain foundational. Medication is one tool within a broader plan, not a replacement for the rest of it.
Who qualifies
Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis during your consultation. Your physician will review your BMI, metabolic history, current medications, and relevant lab values. Certain conditions and medications are contraindications or require additional caution. Your intake form captures the information needed to screen for these before your visit. If GLP-1 therapy is not the right fit, your provider can discuss other options or refer you to a specialist.
